Explore the countryside from the 555 bus route.

'55 555 Walks' by Robert Swain explores the countryside, towns and villages within easy walking distance of the 555 bus route which runs between Lancaster and Keswick. Ride on the top deck of the bus and enjoy the countryside in a way that is impossible from a car.

As the title implies, there are 55 walks. Walks vary in length and difficulty. Some walks are circular and some walks are linear. All of them start and finish at a bus stop. In general, they finish at a point where there are more facilities available, such as for food and drink, when the starting point is rural.

No walk goes above the two thousand foot line and all of them can be done wearing good walking boots. Many of them are suitable for children as well as adults.

Many of the walks link with another one so that the reader can decide to do just as he or she wishes. By using a number of the walks, it is possible to walk all the way from Lancaster to Keswick, with just one very short section having to be done in reverse.

Besides giving a description of each walk, the reader is told something of the history of all the places visited along the way.
